Have you ever heard of the 80/20 Rule?
Basically, as it relates to your Network Marketing business, it states that 80% of the work you do will account for 20% of your results. The other 20% of the work you do will count for 80% of your results.
Funny thing is, the 80% of your work that counts the least also tends to be the easiest, least challenging, least fearful and (at least at first) most fun work that you can do.
The 20% will take you out of your comfort zone, make you squirm in your seat and has been known to turn your iPhone into a 500lb weight that you couldn’t pick up and dial if your life depended on it.
So which category do you think most people spend the bulk of their time?
You guessed it. The 80%.
That is activities such as checking your email, idle chatting with your favorite team members, reading articles, “prospect hunting” (notice I did not say PROSPECTING), planning, scheduling, goal setting, organizing, website building, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Am I saying these activities aren’t important? NO! Nor am I implying that you should stop doing them altogether. They just shouldn’t be your most pressing activities of the day.
The lifeblood of your network marketing business will always be the same three activities — prospecting (finding people to talk to), presentation (talking to the people you find) and duplication (teaching those who join you how to do the same).
For me, I’ve found my days are the most productive when I begin the day with prospecting. Certainly not my most favorite activity, when I start my day with the phone calls I need to make (both to new prospects and following-up), I feel more energized the rest of the day knowing I get to go on to the parts of building my business I enjoy most.
Like blogging, for example 🙂
So if your business isn’t growing like you want it to, take a moment to examine how you are spending your time. Are you BUSY or are you just “busy”?
By making sure you do the 20% of the activities that will account for 80% of your results…. every day…. without fail…. and continuing this pattern over the course of 1-3 years… you will built a financial wall of security that nothing can get through.
