I’ve been in the network marketing industry for over 6 years now. Throughout that time I’ve watched our team experience slow and steady growth and explosive growth… I’ve watched it become stagnant, and I’ve watched it grow again.

There are a lot of factors that affect the growth rate of an organization, but when it comes down to it there is a fundamental, super-simple reason your organization is either growing… Or not.

An organization grows when the distributors within it are meeting new people and sharing their business with those people.

How does that happen? Well, a distributor has to feel that they A) Know how to meet new people and B) Are able to look at the process of meeting new people and say to themselves, “I can do that!”

One of the major factors I hear from distributors all throughout our industry is “I don’t know who to talk to about my business.”

And the fact of the matter is, “Just talk to everyone!” Is not really an acceptable answer.

It happens all the time… A brand new baby distributor makes their debut in the network marketing industry. Psyched beyond belief about the new products they are representing and the promises of riches they immediately begin to share their products and opportunity with everyone they know.

Sometimes this doesn’t work at all. The baby distributor sells no product and acquires no new distributors. Sometimes it works exceptionally well… I happen to know one industry leader who’s major legs of income are all headed up members of his own family. This is rare.

Most often times though, this method leads to marginal success. The baby distributor gets enough new customers and team members that they get a check or two. Their excitement builds over the coming weeks and maybe even a few months. But THEN as their “list” begins to run short… So does their excitement. Next thing they know their customers are placing repeat orders as often as they used to, and a couple of their distributors drop their auto orders. They are still getting checks, but they are smaller… And they are arriving less often.

A few months later, they’ve vanished. Dead on the side of the network marketing super highway. “These things really just don’t work.”

People quit for all sorts of reasons. But most of those reasons come down to the fact that they don’t feel they have enough people to talk to who may become customers or distributors in their business.

So… If that’s the problem, how can we, as leaders, address it? How can we help our distributors to understand there are millions of people in the world to talk to? And how do we help them understand that both finding and talking to them is really pretty easy?

The answer to these questions lies in the 3rd network marketing fundamental: Duplication.

As a leader, your job is to teach your baby distributors the system. It can be a system implemented by your company, your upline or… Depending on your level of experience and success… Yourself.

That’s what our team does. Our group of leaders develop systems that are easy for our team members to plug into and be successful with. We test things until we find what works, and then format it in a way that is easy for everyone to use. That’s just how we roll.

So what if you don’t yet consider yourself a “leader”? My first advice is to go to work on your mindset… No matter how little you know, you still know more about something than somebody. And that makes you a leader!

My second piece of advice is to align yourself with a team of leaders who have a proven, duplicatable system in place. The teams that grow are the teams that duplicate. You need something that will work not just for you, but for YOUR baby distributors as well!

So if you’re feeling stuck, and you know your organization is not growing as quickly as it should be, I urge you to examine your system of duplication — meaning, do your distributors know how to find people to talk to, and do they believe that doing so is easy? If you can answer yes to both of these questions, then you are already moving down the right path!
