How to Become a Leader in Network Marketing

It seems that everyone is looking for the big secret. The secret action plan, the secret product or the secret company that will turn them into the “next big thing” in the network marketing world.

While I believe the network marketing industry provides the most level playing field of any profession in the world, the fact is the vast majority of network marketers will spend their days hanging out on the shallow end instead of swimming with the big fish.

So what is it? What is the big secret that separates the big fish from the tadpoles? Is it social status? Family history? Is it the neighborhood you live in or the car you drive?

The big secret is there is no big secret.

Anyone can be a leader in network marketing.

The harsh reality is that anyone CAN, but most WON’T.

And if there really is a secret…. there it is. Anyone CAN, most WON’T.

Here are a few tips to help you understand why:

To become a leader, you must first behave like one: It’s a universal law. As within, so without. If you want to be a network marketing leader on the outside, you must first become a leader on the inside.

This isn’t difficult to do, but it does require a set of standards, some basic skills and a bit of belief.

To be a leader, you must raise your standards and begin acting like a leader!

The more network marketers I meet the more appalled I become at the marketing tactics used by 99% of the people out there in the marketplace.

“I’m ready to help 3 more people become financially free!”

Goodness gracious. No wonder our industry has such a bad rap! We are basically screaming COME JOIN MY SCAM from the mountain tops!

Think for a moment of the big corporations outside of our industry. McDonalds, Macy’s, Best Buy, Neiman Marcus, etc. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen any of them use advertising tactics like those listed above.

Now think of the leaders within our profession:

Do you see network marketing leaders such as Richard Brooke, Eric Worre, Jordan Adler, Donna Johnson, Art Jonak, Ken Dunn, and Jonathan Budd spamming message boards and Facebook groups with hypey messages regarding their product and/or opportunity?

The answer is no. Never. Doesn’t happen.

These people operate by a higher standard, and if you want to become like them, it’s high time you start doing the same.

Now let’s talk for a moment about skills.

Like it or not, becoming a network marketing leader requires a certain set of skills. These skills are not hard to come by, but most network marketers these days do not take the time to even find out what they are, much less spend the time it takes to acquire them.

Have you ever noticed the common thread amongst virtually ALL network marketing leaders?

They all come from different backgrounds. They all work with different companies. Some build old-school, others build-new school. Their stories are unique but there is a common thread that binds them all:

They are all avid students of personal development.

To become a leader you must first behave like one. And to behave like one, you must learn the skills that will enable you to do so.

Books like, “How to Build a Multi-Level Money Machine” by Randy Gage, “Your MLM Blueprint” by Kody Bateman, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, and any book written by John Maxwell on the subject of leadership are just a few of the titles that come immediately to mind.

Books like these will help you acquire the skills it takes to become a leader in network marketing.

Finally, let’s talk about the belief.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “If you build it, they will come”?

Type it up, print it out and tape it to your computer screen.

The PEOPLE follow the standards, the skills and the belief, not the other way around!

In order to become a leader, you must first BE a leader. Start believing like a leader, behaving like a leader and before long you will be leading like a leader and earning like one too.

Become a leader, and the followers will start to appear.

It’s that simple!

So there you have it — standards, skills and belief. Just a few of the things it takes to become a leader in network marketing.
