One of they key distinctions between those who are successful and those who are not is the ability to focus on the solution rather than the problem. We are ALL going to face problems from time to time. Chances are, you are facing one right now. Life will constantly be throwing you twists and turns but its how we choose to react to them that makes all the difference.
You may be saying, “But I don’t know the solution. If I did, I wouldn’t have the problem.” That’s okay! Focus on the solution anyway! Focus on the situation and imagine the best-case-scenario. What is the absolute best thing that could come from or solve the problem you are facing?
When you do this exercise you will probably find that you DO know the solution — what you’re missing in the PROCESS. That is where your subconscious mind comes into play.
We highly underestimate the power of the human mind. Scientists have proven that we only function as a fraction of the percentage of our human potential. Being aware of how your mind works is the first step towards increasing your brain function.
There are two parts to the human mind — the conscious and the subconscious. Your conscious mind can only hold one thought at a time.
Don’t think about elephants.
What are you thinking about now?
Your subconscious mind is different — it can focus and go to work on hundreds, even thousands of things. It holds all of the information that has ever entered your brain, even if your conscious mind cannot recall it! The other cool thing about the subconscious mind is that it does not know the difference between reality and imagination. It’s that quality that allows you to be scared during a horror movie! Logically (in your conscious mind) you know that the characters on the screen are just actors. No one is in any real danger. The zombie does not exist. It is your subconscious mind that allows you to be swept away with the story… to feel fear as if the things unfolding on the screen were truly happening right in front of your eyes!
The CEO of SendOutCards has a powerful phrase that describes the value of focusing on the solution rather than the problem. He says, “The story in your mind becomes the story of your life.” That is SO true! The story in your mind (what you tell your subconscious) becomes your reality!
The next time you are faced with a problem try consciously focusing on the solution. Refuse to thing about all of the things that have and could go wrong and instead focus on the best-case-scenario for that situation. If you will make a conscious effort to do this, your SUBconscious mind will go to work on formulating the steps to create that reality for you.
Give it a try. You may be surprised what your mind comes up with!
