Do This to Dominate 2016
Welcome to 2016! There’s still a blanket of snow here in West Texas, and the blank white canvas outside reminds me of my favorite New Year’s quote:
“We will open the book. It’s pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and it’s first chapter is New Years Day.” ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce
Every book begins with a word, so my question to you is this:
On this New Years Day, which word will you use to start your book?
Choosing a word for the year can be an incredibly empowering and focusing practice. Your word becomes the common denominator in all of your individual goals, binding them together with a shared purpose. When you choose a single word to become your focus for the year it changes the way you do everything. It becomes the litmus test behind every decision and the beacon toward which everything points.
My husband and I decided our family word of the year is BOLD.
Here are a few of its definitions, according to Dictionary.com
- Not hesitating or fearful in the face of actual or possible danger or rebuff; courageous and daring.
- Not hesitating to break the rules of propriety; forward; imprudent.
- necessitating courage and daring; challenging.
- beyond the usual limits of conventional thought or action; imaginative.
The idea behind choosing a word for the year is that you approach every facet of your life with that word in mind. With every decision, your word is at the forefront of your mind… dictating the direction you’ll choose.
For my husband and I, choosing BOLD for our word of the year means we will strive to not hesitate or be fearful in the face of things that scare us. It means in every decision we will do our best to not conform to convention, but go beyond the limits of ourselves to create and discover the paths we must follow to reach our goals. It means we will look for the courage to embrace every challenge.
Boldness = Adventure
When you’re on an adventure anything can happen… and sometimes it takes an adventure to get to the places you want to go!
If you want to dominate 2016, I invite you to choose your own word of the year.
Look up the definition, and write down what it would mean to pursue every area of your life with that word in mind:
What does your word of the year look like in your business, your finances, your relationships, your spiritual life, your health and your physical environments?
What do you look like when your word of the year becomes your mindset?
What does your life look like when your word of the year becomes your lifestyle?
Write your word on a few notecards and put them in strategic places around your home and work. I recommend places like the bottom of your computer screen, your bathroom mirror, in your purse or somewhere in your vehicle. Seeing your word in your own handwriting will help it become a part of who you are. Your word will become your life philosophy… and when that happens, all bets are off!
I’d love to hear what YOUR word of the year is!
So if you got value from this post please like and comment with your WORD and what it means to you! And feel free to share this with your network as well, so they can choose their own word of the year!
Wishing you and your family an INCREDIBLE 2016!
